CANACONA
A 45-year-old man was attacked and wounded by a leopard at his house in Pedem-Loliem in the wee hours of Friday.
Dilip Satarkar, who sustained injuries above his left eye and on his head, is presently undergoing treatment at the Canacona Community Health Centre (CHC).
According to Satarkar, the incident took place when he was woken from his sleep by the barking of their dog at about 1 am on Friday.
“When I opened the main door of my house, I saw our terrified dog above the wooden plank where it usually sleeps and a leopard down below. On noticing the leopard, I tried to scare the leopard away, but suddenly our dog came down and both were engaged in a fight.”
“I tried shouting in a bid to scare the leopard. The dog broke free from the leopard and ran out, but the leopard suddenly pounced on me and I fell down. I tried to break free and ran inside the house soaked in blood from injuries on my forehead and on my and closed the main door,” said Satarkar.
In the noise and ensuing confusion, other family members work up and they alerted the neighbours.
A profusely bleeding Satarkar was rushed to the Canacona CHC, where doctors treated him for his wounds. He is presently recuperating at CHC and is out of danger.
