Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi raising the issue of e-visa facility for the United Kingdom to facilitate the entry of tourists in the State.
Lobo in his letter said the Indian diaspora in the UK have been enjoying the benefit of e-visa facility to visit India via charter flights coming into Goa.
He said the e-visa facility has been discontinued presumably for diplomatic considerations, causing untold hardships to incoming tourists as well as people travelling to their native places in Goa and rest of India from the UK.
He has also brought to the attention of the PM how the decision has had a negative impact on the tourism industry, which was just recovering after the Covid pandemic.
“The e-visa facility may be considered for restoration to accord relief to our diaspora in the UK at the earliest,” Lobo said in his letter.
Tourism industry stakeholders have been concerned on what impact the withdrawal of the e-visa facility for visitors from the UK will have on the tourism season which has just commenced in the State.
