PERNEM: Days after a youth lost his life after an altercation with workers of a shack over obstruction of beach chairs at Arambol beach, Mandrem police on Wednesday warned shack operators and employees to refrain from taking law in their hands.
At an urgent meeting with shack operators from Arambol, Mandrem, Morjim and Keri in Pernem taluka, the police also instructed shack operators not to place tables/chairs on the beach which obstructs public movement and to close their business by the stipulated time.
Pernem DySP Ashish Shirodkar and Police Inspector Sheriff Jacques told those present at the meeting to avoid any kind of disturbance and to intimate police in case of any issue.
The shack operators were asked to strictly run their business as well as to play music with the specified timings, failing which action would be taken against them.
A local youth Amar Bandekar had died following an altercation with shack workers at Arambol beach on January 26 evening, after he reportedly objected to the obstruction caused by the beach chairs belonging to the shack when he was out for a beach stroll.
Mandrem police has arrested three persons in this connection, as investigations are in progress.
