The residents of Mangor Hill, especially from Ward No. 17 has on Sunday complained about the irregular door-to-door garbage collection in the area. The residents have also written to the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer to resolve the issues at the earliest.
Speaking to media, a resident Siddharth Kaskar informed that from the last three weeks there has been irregular collection of daily door-to-door garbage collection.
“While the service has been irregular most of the time, for the last eight days, there has been no garbage collection from houses forcing people to dump the garbage in and around the garbage collection point. The heap of garbage is rising every day and worst is the cattle and stray dogs dragging it all over on the road causing traffic congestion and risks to motorists,” said Kaskar.
The resident further said that the Council must take immediate action to ensure daily door-to-door garbage collection in the area.
“There must also be a proper access to the garbage cage collection point and Council must impound stray cattle causing heavy traffic congestion under the Goa Stray Cattle Management Scheme 2013,” said Kaskar.
When contacted outgoing MMC councillor Krishna Salkar, said that there is a garbage contractor appointed who may have failed in his duty.
“The administrator must enquire why the garbage is not collected and garbage on the roads in the area is attracting stray cattle. There used to be dark spots in Vasco city which have been cleared and the MMC Chief Officer and Administrator must take steps to resolve the issue,” said Salkar.
Salkar further said that sometimes garbage trucks loaded with garbage are parked near the MMC garage for 8 days. “There has to be space made available at the garbage treatment plant as well and if we have trucks loaded and parked for so many days, it can affect the routine of these vehicles further and subsequently cause issues for garbage collection. Every time we ask the supervisors, they say that there is no space available at the garbage treatment plant,” said Salkar.
