MAPUSA
Three women were booked on charges of stealing a mangalsutra worth Rs 2 lakh, Mapusa Police informed.
The incident happened last month when complainant Rajshree Satardekar was travelling in a private bus from Guirim to Mapusa.
According to police, the theft came to light after the victim got down from the bus and noticed that her mangalsutra weighing around 64 grams was missing.
The victim suspected that some women who were on the crowded bus might have stolen her mangalsutra.
In the meantime, the Bicholim Police had apprehended some women who were involved in committing theft of mangalsutras in buses.
The victim woman then approached the Bicholim Police and identified the alleged accused women as the co-passengers who were travelling in the Guirim-Mapusa bus when her mangalsutra disappeared.
She then filed a complaint against three women identified as Vanitha, Radha of Delhi, and Sivakani of Tamil Nadu.
Based on the complaint, Mapusa Police registered an offence under Section 379 read with 34 of the IPC against the three suspect women.
