Old Goa police on Tuesday arrested Albino Sequeira on charges of duping many persons on the pretext of providing services of Portuguese birth registrations and Portuguese passports.
The police informed that complaint to this effect was lodged by Abdul Khan of Margao that the accused Sequeira and his wife received money from complainant and others on pretext of providing Portuguese birth registration and Portuguese passport.
“After receiving money, the accused deceived and cheated them without providing any such passport,” the police informed, while adding that around 50-60 persons from across Goa are suspected to have been cheated for lakhs of rupees.
The police further said the accused Sequeira was operating since the last 8-10 years and had set up his own mechanism to make Portuguese birth registration and Portuguese passport. Also, he was instrumental in providing jobs abroad mainly in European and American countries.
Initially, few cases were successfully done, but in last 4-5 years, the accused is alleged to have taken lakhs of rupees from around 50-60 persons on pretext of providing Portuguese passport and jobs abroad, but failed to do so.
Initially, he settled few customers for money lesser than taken from them. Later, he denied to settle the same and was evading a meeting with his clients.
Old Goa police were tracking his movements for the last few months as he was travelling in other states and also shifting residences in Goa.
He was finally tracked and apprehended on Tuesday and further investigations are underway.
