Taking into consideration the health issues that are linked to the Tar River, the Directorate of Health Services has directed the Mapusa Urban Health Centre to hold a joint site inspection of Tar River on July 16.
On the occasion of the State Consumer Rights Day on June 25 the GOACAN had in a letter brought to the notice of the Mapusa Health Officer about various health issues linked to the Tar River.
GOACAN in its letter had pointed out that while water stagnation had occurred because of mud and debris in parts of the river, the release of wastewater and dumping of garbage had resulted in health and sanitation issues adding to the pollution problem of the Tar River.
“As the Covid crisis continues it is important to assure people that other health problems like vector-borne diseases will not emerge due to the present condition of the river if prompt action is not taken,” said Roland Martins, coordinator of GOACAN.
