Mapusa police book 2 for drunken driving

The Mapusa police on Tuesday booked two persons for drunken and rash driving after a Porvorim-resident alleged that around 8pm on Sunday -- coincidentally around the same time and day when the Banastarim accident occurred “ his vehicle was hit by the accused’s car on the road towards Anjuna.

The accused driver is identified as Albino Fernandes of Dramapur, Salcete, against whom the police are preparing a case to be submitted to the Transport Department for suspension of driving license.

“When the complainant was proceeding in his car towards Anjuna, one car which was being driven rashly and negligently, hit the former’s car. The driver and the occupant of the said car identified as Albino and Kedar Jagdale Dessai of Margao, respectively abused the complainant, his wife, and son in filthy language and threatened them with dire consequences,” SDPO Mapusa Jivba Dalvi said, quoting the complaint copy.

The accused, as per the complaint, bragged of having influential connections, reportedly links with Chief Minister Pramod Sawnat, and “they will teach the complainant and his family a lesson.” The police have registered the offense under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicle Act.
