The cash-for-job scam has now raised its ugly head in Salcete with the Margao Police arresting two women in connection with the case that occurred in 2020.
The two accused women, Vishaya Vishnu Gawde, a resident of Sao Jose de Areal and Soniya alias Roshan Somnath Achari, a resident of Sadashivgad-Karwar, have been arrested under section 420 read with section 34 of IPC.
The police action came after a complaint was lodged by one Sunil Borkar, a resident of Nagmoddem-Navelim, Salcete against the two women. In his complaint, Borkar claimed that between January 20, 2020 and June 30, 2020, on different occasions at UCO Bank and ICICI Bank in Margao, the two accused persons Vishaya, wife of Visnhu Gawde, resident of St Jose De Areal, Salcete, and Soniya alias Roshan, wife of Somnath Achari, resident of Achariwada, Sadashivgad-Karwar, dishonestly induced him to pay an amount of Rs. 16,12,500 on the pretext of providing a job at Karwar-Karnataka.
He further pointed out that the accused persons fraudulently accepted the amount on different occasions from him and his family members, thereby dishonestly cheating him.
Margao police said after an investigation, both the accused persons were arrested. PSI Shubham Gaunkar is heading the probe.
