Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho on Monday expressed his ire against a coterie within Goa's taxi owners and operators for refusing to operate and use the digital meters fitted under a court ruling and for functioning whimsically.
He warned that at an appropriate time the enforcement wing of the transport department will swing into action to instill discipline and obedience to the rules and regulations in taxi operations in the State.
Godinho said it is not a question of tourists refusing to abide by meter fare system but a lobby within the tourist drivers or operators who are the culprits.
The transport minister also questioned the unofficial trend among taxi operators by which taximen from the North are not allowed to operate in South and vice-versa.
Another practice of taximen stationed at a particular area refusing entry to other taxis or private vehicles for use by guests was also flayed by the Transport Minister.
"What manner of functioning is this? Taxis from the north are not allowed to operate in South Goa. Even private vehicles are not allowed to entire hotels. What is this happening? Is this Goa?" Godinho said, adding that at the right time action will be taken to instill discipline and correct the erratic manner in which transport in the State is managed by these taxi operators.
