MARGAO
Goa Football Association's Ilhas Zone Executive Committee member and CEO of Sporting Clube de Goa, Welvino Menezes has jumped in the fray for the post of the president for which "he will fight to the finish".
According sources, Menezes will file his nomination for the post of the GFA president. "He cannot let the clubs down, who have put their faith in him and asked him to bring this presidential contest to its logical conclusion," said a source.
Menezes has already been approached by the clubs from North and South Goa. "Yes, he is keen on contesting the election," disclosed a GFA member on condition of anonymity. "He had always maintained that things were not being run properly and much less professionally. There has been a lot of acrimony in the last few years. It does no good for Goan football. Obviously, the clubs are openly talking about the need for a change," the source said.
"For a long time now, he was vocal critic of the functioning of the GFA administration. Now seems to be the right time. A lot of club representatives have met him and requested him to contest to be the GFA president. It’s almost certain that he will be contesting," said the source.
