OLD GOA
The Merces panchayat on Friday demolished a house which was illegally constructed in St Caitan ward.
Merces Sarpanch Pramod Kamat informed that the panchayat had served a show-cause notice to the party which illegally constructed the house after which a reply was received.
“However, the panchayat found that the reply was unsatisfactory and issued a demolition notice, which was not challenged by the said party,” Kamat stated while adding that the panchayat then approached the Tiswadi BDO for the demolition squad.
“So, today we have gone ahead with the demolition of the house after following all procedures,” the sarpanch said.
When questioned further, Kamat said that the said party had constructed the house on somebody else’s property and had even got a house number for the same.
“However, the address for the house number was from Moloca,” Kamat informed.
Local panch Dayesh Vengurlekar said that the demolition should send a clear message that such illegalities will not be tolerated in Merces.
