Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary has to be notified first, says front

Adds once notified, sanctuary can be declared tiger reserve

OLD GOA

Stating that the notification of the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary as a tiger reserve would immensely help the Mhadei cause, the Save Mhadei Save Goa Front leaders however said for that to happen, the Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary has to be notified first.
When questioned on the issue, Mahesh Mahambrey said that Mhadei Wildlife Sanctuary has only been declared as a sanctuary and not notified.
“So, for it to be declared as a tiger reserve, it would have to be first notified as a sanctuary,” Mahambrey informed, while further adding that only a portion cannot be notified as a tiger reserve but the entire area which is frequented by the tigers has to notified as such.
Further, Mahambrey said that it is for the government to work in that direction.
However, historian Prajal Sakhardade said that if tiger reserve is notified then it would solve a major problem.
“However, there are other multiple issues connected which also need to be resolved,” he added.

OLD GOA: Countering the statement of RGP challenging the Save Mhadei Save Goa Front to hold agitation in Karnataka, the Front leaders challenged the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) to declare a Goa Bandh on Mhadei and they will extend support to them.
Replying to question by reporters, Adv Hrudaynath Shirodkar said, “Let RGP declare a Goa Bandh on Mhadei, we will extend support.”
To another question on the demand that the Congress leader in the Save Mhadei Front should urge the Karnataka Congress government to halt the Kalsa-Bhandura project, Shirodkar said, “Our Front comprises various members of political parties. But here, we are taking the movement forward as Goans and everybody, irrespective of any political affiliation, is welcome to join the Front.”
