If the BJP was already in a firefighting exercise following recent statements by Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo which angered Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza, the party is now faced with yet another confrontation among party legislators in the port town.
Vasco BJP MLA Carlos Almeida on Monday alleged a scam in the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) building renovation project by GSUDA and even dared Urban Development Minister Milind Naik to come clear on issue.
Speaking to reporters, Almeida said the heritage building can only be restored and not renovated.
"The MMC building is an old heritage building and GSUDA should restore the building to its old glory and original heritage value.”
“They have put sheets on the ceiling which are not supposed to be used for a historical building and they cannot just cut the ceiling and replace the tiles with tin sheets. This is a big scam.”
“GSUDA is under the Urban Development Minister Milind Naik and he must take action in the matter. Who has taken the old and strong teak wood roof base and after placing sheets, where is the wood which was present in the ceiling? I am pointing a direct finger at GSUDA which is involved in this scam. They must understand the meaning of the word “restoration”.
“I am alleging a scam in GSUDA and let Urban Development Minister Milind Naik come clear on this matter. Let heritage lovers and architects come and verify my allegations," said Almeida.
