MLAs, VPs file police complaint against PWD officers, contractor

Accuse them of reckless work that damaged pipeline at Karaswada

PORVORIM

Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte and Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar along with the panchayats of Penha de Franca and Salvador do Mundo have filed a complaint at the Porvorim police station against officers concerned at the PWD and the contractor, in connection with the repairs on the water pipeline at Kharraswaddo-Mapusa.

They claimed that reckless work had damaged public property and caused severe hardship to residents in Porvorim and Saligao constituencies.

The police complaint stated that residents of Porvorim and Saligao constituencies have suffered water scarcity for five days from April 15 to April 19 due to lethargic, mala fide acts and non-functioning of officers concerned of PWD and National Highways, as also the contractor appointed to carry out repair of the water pipeline.

They stated that there was initially a planned shutdown on April 15 and 16, but till Wednesday, there was no water supply to some areas of Porvorim and Saligao constituencies.

The contractor has been accused of damaging water pipelines on previous occasions at Bambolim, Merces, Panaji, etc. which affected water supply to residents in those areas.

The police complaint also stated that in the first week of April, the contractor had damaged the Kharaswaddo main electricity supply line which connects to Saligao Power substation, disrupting power supply to entire Saligao area on April 1.

However, no legal action has been taken by the PWD against the contractor till date, which clearly displays a connivance between the PWD and the contractor, stated the complaint.

Since PWD has failed in its duty, action need to be initiated against the erring PWD officials as also the contractor who failed to repair the water pipeline on time and in a proper manner, the complaint added.
