MMC directs officials to rid streets of illegal hawkers

After receiving several complaints from citizens, Margao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer (CO) Agnelo Fernandes has directed his technical section to clear all the streets from migrants, who are selling illegal items and obstructing the free flow of traffic on Margao roads.

The CO has said that it has been brought to his notice that streets in Margao Municipal Council jurisdiction, people are selling all types of Christmas decoration and other items, and thereby obstructing the free flow of traffic. Some of these hawkers have not applied for any permissions from the MMC and are doing illegal business and also causing traffic blocks and nuisance to public,” he said.

The CO mentioned that he has ordered Municipal inspectors to take immediate action and strict compliance of Municipality guidelines to clear the streets of all illegal hawkers.

The CO also appealed to the shoppers coming into Margao not to entertain these illegal hawkers selling Christmas decor, etc, but to buy and support genuine Margao traders who pay regular business fees and rent to the MMC.
