MARGAO
Margao Traffic Cell’s proposal to introduce pay parking on roads in the commercial capital has found favour with the City fathers. In fact, the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) on Monday gave its in-principle nod for pay parking on city roads. The City fathers, however, have decided to take the resolution to the logical conclusion only after identifying the roads and fixing the fees.
When the MMC Chairperson Lyndon Pereira placed the Margao Traffic Cell’s proposal before the Council meeting on Monday, councillor Raju Naik stood up in support of the proposal, saying the Fatorda area is facing haphazard parking, especially near the Ravindra Bhavan Margao and near the KTC bus stand.
Councillor Shagun Naik also expressed his support to the proposal, but on a condition that the Council first identifies the road and works out the fees.
Chairperson Lyndon then suggested to form a panel comprising of Municipal officials and councillors to study the Traffic Cell proposal before taking concrete action.
Incidentally, MMC cried foul that the Civic body is yet to initiate action against rent-a-bikes parked around the MMC building.
Councillors have also demanded that the Civic body stop parking of buses on the Municipal acquired land at Old Market.
