The Panaji police on Monday booked an unidentified woman for duping a dentist of Rs 90,000 on the pretext of sending her dental patients.The dentist practising in the capital city had earlier this month complained to the town police accusing an unknown caller of impersonation and cheating. An FIR under sections 419 (cheating by personation) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code was registered on Monday after a preliminary inquiry established allegations against the accused.
As per the complaint, the caller impersonated an army officer and lured the dentist into investing Rs 90,000 in exchange for dental patients the former would send to her clinic for treatment. "The imposter sent the dentist a link on WhatsApp through which the latter had transferred the amount. The victim did so but realised she was cheated when the caller declined incoming calls and messages. A complaint was filed thereafter," the Panaji police said.
The police team have begun a manhunt while it is also tracking the calls and messages.
