The Directorate of Panchayats (DoP) has stayed the stop-work notice issued by the Varkhand panchayat on the Mopa Link road.
The Varkhand panchayat had issued a stop-work notice to the company constructing the Mopa Link road.
The company had challenged the notice before the DoP and the DoP has stayed the stop-work notice that was issued by the panchayat.
On Wednesday, the North Goa Collector Ajit Roy refused to interfere and halt the contractor from proceeding with the link road work when a group of villagers including the Varkhand-Nagzar Sarpanch had called on him and sought his help.
Work to construct the Mopa Link road has continued since the last several days in the presence of a strong posse of policemen despite protests and opposition from locals and farmers.
Farmers affected by the project have been consistently protesting and on Sunday resorted to blocking the road at Mopa and demanded the stoppage of work immediately.
