The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has been facing issues in revenue generation, leading to delays in payment of salaries to its staff.
One of the main reasons for the revenue generation issue faced by the MMC is the sudden halt in the ressessment of houses on account of the Lok Sabha elections.
MMC Chairperson Girish Borker said the house reassessment drive will resume after the Lok Sabha elections.
"To boost revenue, the council had initiated a house assessment for tax revision. However, the assessment procedure has been hampered by deployment of most staff on election duty for the Lok Sabha elections,” said Borkar.
“This deployment, coupled with an existing staff shortage, has further delayed municipal work. The council is grappling with the challenge of balancing essential duties while ensuring revenue generation and staff welfare.”
