Slamming the BJP government over its move to amend the Code of Comunidade to legalise illegal structures on Comunidade land, RGP MLA Viresh Borkar termed it as an ‘election jumla’ to garner migrant votes.
Speaking to reporters in Panaji on Saturday, Borkar informed that the Code of Comunidade is a Bible as far as the community land in Goa is concerned.
“And to amend this Code is an unholy act of the government which is done only to protect the migrant vote bank in the slums,” Borkar stated.
“It is nothing but an ‘election jumla’ of the government to please the migrant vote bank and this government wants to reward those who are doing illegalities,” Borkar chided.
“There are orders for demolition of illegal structures on Comunidade land and instead of implementing these orders, the government is trying to protect them by bringing in such amendments,” the MLA charges.
“Is this the change that the BJP was talking about that they would bring in Goa?” he questioned.
“The Goans are paying hefty loans to buy land or build homes but the migrants are encroaching on Comunidade land and the government is rewarding them through such amendments,” Borkar stated.
“We are not going to keep quiet on the issue and will oppose the amendment as the Comunidade land is only for Goans,” Borkar said.
RGP’s South Goa Lok Sabha candidate Rubert Pereira spoke on the illegalities at Moti Dongor and urged the government to demolish the illegal structures as per the order in 2013.
“There is an order to demolish the illegal structures at Moti Dongor and instead of implementing the same, the government announces a rehabilitation package of Rs 5 crore which shows that the BJP is more interested in protecting the illegalities of the migrants to garner their votes,” Pereira chided.
