Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has said the Multipurpose Cyclone Shelter (MPCS) at Pilerne will be completed by September 30.
He was speaking to reporters after inspecting the ongoing construction of MPCS along with the Saligao MLA Jayesh Salgaonkar.
“The National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Project is a flagship programme funded by World Bank exclusively focussing on ex-ante disaster risk mitigation. The coastal belts of Goa are highly susceptible to cyclonic winds.”
“The MPCS has been designed to accommodate 550 persons during eventualities like floods, cyclones and other calamities and in extreme condition, it can accommodate up to 1,100 persons.”
“The ground floor of the building has been has been provided with disabled-friendly rooms for male and female with kitchen, dining and toilet facilities. The first and second floor have been provided with hall type dormitories with store and toilet facilities,” said Sawant.
He informed that 80% of the work has been completed and the remaining work will be completed by September 30.
“This ground-plus-two storeyed project is being built at a cost of Rs 2.94 crore and includes classrooms, community function hall, meeting rooms, vocational training, mini Gymkhana and other community activities,” said Sawant.
