National award to Goa, credit to tourism stakeholders: Minister

PERNEM
Expressing happiness over the India Today award to Goa as the best performing small state in economy, infrastructure and tourism, Deputy Chief Minister and Tourism Minister Babu Ajgaonkar said the credit goes to all tourism stakeholders in the State.

“Goa, which is a world tourist destination, has added one more feather to its glorious crown. This honour from a national magazine is a testament to the fact that Goa is well on its track of tourism development," he said.

“Along with the tourism department, credit for this success goes to Goa Tourism Development Corporation, hoteliers, shacks owners, taxi operators, various service providers to tourists, local self-bodies that support tourism growth and local people's representatives. The support received from Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is equally important,” said Ajgaonkar.

The minister said the government has been making efforts for the last few years to develop Goa to a higher level in terms of tourism.

“We have emphasised on the development of infrastructure for the growth of tourism. Positive results of these efforts are visible. A comprehensive Tourism Policy announced recently was part of these efforts. Our goal is to keep Goa shining on the world tourism map. Even in times of Covid crisis, we have taken good care of the tourism sector," he said.

“By way of the Tourism Policy, we have outlined the direction of tourism development of Goa. Along with coastal tourism, eco-adventure, sports and medical tourism will also be promoted. This will create new employment opportunities and will also benefit rural people in coastal areas as well as in the hinterland.”

“The forthcoming tourism project will be set up with this objective in mind and its positive results will be seen in the next few years,” Ajgaonkar added.
