Authorities have decided to appoint a new contractor to hotmix the Sankhali-Chorla stretch of the Goa-Belagavi road.According to sources, the Sankhali-Chorla road, which connects Goa and Karnataka, was to have been tarred at a cost of Rs 12 crore.
The contractor, however, did not complete the first phase of the work and the project has been stalled for the last one year. Letters sent to the contractor were reportedly returned as the address was incorrect.
Authorities then decided to issue a show-cause notice to the contractor, but that notice was also returned due to an incorrect address.
Authorities then began the process to appoint a new contractor and are likely to finalise the contractor by April 13, so that the pending hotmixing work can be completed by May 15.
At present, there are several potholes on the road and motorists could face difficulties travelling along the Sankhali-Chorla stretch of the Goa-Belagavi road.
The Chorla Ghat is one of the most popular routes for motorists and commuters travelling between Goa and Belagavi, with traffic picking up in recent times. Authorities hope to complete the hotmixing work by May 15.
