The Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) on Friday witnessed stormy scenes as it passed a budget of Rs 101.67 crore for the financial year 2022-23.
There has been an increase of 37.87% in the budget as compared to the previous year when the budget estimate was Rs 88.23 crore last year.
Revenue receipts have been projected at Rs 84.48 crore and Capital Receipts are projected at Rs 17.17 crore, while revenue expenditure has been projected at Rs 68.45 crore and capital expenditure has been projected at Rs 33.20 crore, amounting to Rs 101.65 crore.
Chaos prevailed during the budget presentation after the opposition accused CCP Mayor Rohit Monserrate of failing to recover pending dues with its jurisdiction.
The opposition also termed the budget a ‘Copy and Paste’.
Corporator Surendra Furtado demanded to know why Rs 15.35 crore of revenue had not been recovered and how the estimated revenue of Rs 84.48 crore would be collected in the next eight months when Rs 15.35 crore was not recovered.
Furtado also raised the point that CCP has failed to generate Capital receipt revenue to the tune of Rs 4.71 crore.
Ruling Corporator Vasant Agashikar also sought to know why Rs 1 crore was reserved to outsource water tankers when the CCP has its tanker supply system.
Agashikar also raised the issue of crores of rupees being provided to repair footpaths when the footpaths will be constructed using Smart City funds.
Agashikar demanded that the tender to pluck fruits should be given yearly and at higher prices rather than the present Rs 76,000 for three years.
