The Bharat bandh called by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) on February 26, will not have much impact in Goa as Goan trade organisations have not taken any decision to participate in the Bandh.
CAIT has called Bharat Bandh to protest against rising fuel prices, the new e-way bill and the Goods and Services Tax (GST). Although the trade unions in Goa have in-principal supported the bandh, they have not decided to actually participate in the Bharat bandh.
"We support the cause but we have not taken any decision to participate in the bandh", an All India Trade Union leader from Panaji said.
Private bus owners too will not participate in the bandh. “We have not received any call from any organisation about the bandh”, said Goa Private Bus Owners Associations leader Sudip Tamhankar.
The police officials from Goa have also confirmed that there are no reports of any traders planning to keep their shutters down in Goa.
However, all over India around 40,000 trade associations have decided to extend their support and have decided to undertake a chaka jam on Friday.
The CAIT has demanded scrapping of the new e-way bill or eliminating certain rules from it. It has also appealed to the government to withdraw heavy taxes on fuel prices and make it uniform across India.
