No divide in BJP, we are one in Mormugao, says minister

VASCO

Even as two BJP-backed councillors were pitted against each other and almost contested election to the post of vice-chairperson at the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC), Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho on Tuesday insisted there was no divide in the BJP and that the party was united in Mormugao Taluka.

Godinho was speaking to reporters after congratulating newly elected MMC Vice Chairperson Ramchandra Kamat at his office in the presence of Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar, Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar and other MMC councillors.

"There is no question of divide and there is no issue but it was only miscommunication which has been sorted out in quick time. We can all see a strong unity here and we are all united. All three BJP MLAs are together along with all councillors, including MMC Chairperson Leo Rodrigues and newly elected Vice Chairperson and Ramchandra Kamat,” said Godinho.

Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar said Kinlekar had shown how the party works with his sacrifice and withdrawing immediately without any hesitation in favour of Kamat.

"BJP is a disciplined party. There was no confusion at all and both candidates were interested to become the MMC vice chairperson, but the party intervened and Godinho resolved the issue. The main issue was that all of us MLAs were busy and did not get a chance to sit with all councillors prior to the election. However, the issue has been resolved now,” said Salkar.

Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar said all councillors have been requested to maintain unity for the betterment of the Taluka and development works of the council," said Amonkar.
