The Colva panchayat on Sunday discussed and deliberated on a host of issues, including the contentious issue of discharge of sewage and waste water into the Colva creek, contaminating the water body.
At the gram sabha chaired by Sarpanch Suzie on Sunday, gram sabha member Calvert Gonsalves also raised the issue of vegetable vendors doing business along the roadside and the traffic congestion at certain spots because of haphazard parking.
Calvert pointed out that a couple of hotels are discharging waste water in the Colva creek, polluting the water. Members pointed out that the Colva creek contamination has not been resolved till date.
Sarpanch Suzie explained that the Panchayat had in the past written to the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB) for action.
On the issue of vegetable vendors, the Sarpanch was questioned whether the Panchayat has issued permissions for the vendors to run vegetable stalls and whether any action is contemplated against the activity.
The gram sabha members also discussed the budget estimates for the financial year 2025-26 at the meeting.
