With a large number of migrants in Indira Nagar-Chimbel, the need for a police outpost is always felt in the village to keep a watch on rising crimes in the locality.
Earlier attempts by panchayat authorities to setup a police outpost failed to yield results due to lack of premises for the police outpost.
Now, another opportunity comes knocking at the door of the Chimbel panchayat as the Old Goa police have shot off a letter to authorities seeking premises for setting up of police outpost in the village.
Sources informed that the police have asked for a two-room premise with basic facilities like toilet, water, electricity, so that four police personnel could be posted at the outpost.
“Currently, whenever anything happens in Chimbel, police at the Ribandar outpost have to rush to the village, which takes a lot of time. If the police is posted at Chimbel, particularly at Indira Nagar, then it would become easier to reach the crime spot and also it would act as deterrent against crimes,” the source added.
When contacted, Sarpanch Sandesh Chopdekar confirmed to The Goan that the panchayat is in receipt of the letter from the Old Goa police requesting for a premises for setting up of an outpost.
“We have discussed the same at the recent fortnightly meeting and we are in the process of identifying a premise where the outpost could be setup,” Shirodkar informed and added that one such premise along the main road at Indira Nagar is on their mind.
“The premise is perfectly suited to set up the police outpost and we are currently in the process of locating the owner, so that formalities to take it on rent can be completed,” he added.
