Only show cause notices slapped on violators

MAPUSA

Time and again, villagers from the coastal belt have been complaining to various authorities against loud music played by hoteliers and restaurant owners but apart from issuing show cause notices nothing constructive really happened.

On the contrary, the hoteliers, owners of bar and restaurants and even shack owners were emboldened and continued to blast music at unearthly hours.

A year back, the then deputy collector of Bardez Kapil Phadte issued show cause notice to 19 hotels and bar & restaurants for noise pollution including popular night clubs in Anjuna like Hill Top, Larive Beach Resort, U V Bar and Restaurant, Curlies, Shiva Valley etc.

But after the show cause notices there was no follow up and within a year the deputy collector was shunted from his post.

Desmond Alvares, an active resident of Assagao monitored the music scene along the Anjuna coast and constantly complained to the concerned authorities but was left demoralized and shattered on account of lack of action.

“For several years we have been raising the issue of loud music but none of the authorities have ever bothered to take cognizance of our complaints and take it to a logical end,” Alvares said.
