The Indian Dental Association’s State branch will be focussing on community dental health check-up programs and oral cancer awareness in addition to continuing dental education programs and dental conferences. This step is taken because there is a drastic increase in oral cancer cases in Goa.

“We would be conducting dental health check-up camps for screening patients for oral cancer from across the State. Dental surgeons are capable and trained to detect the initial pre malignant changes in the oral cavity to diagnose cancer at a very early stage,” stated Dr Subir who has taken over as the president of Indian Dental Association (IDA)’s Goa State branch.

He appealed to the dental surgeons practicing in Goa who are not listed as members of the IDA Goa State branch to join hands and increase the membership strength.

The annual general body meeting of IDA Goa was recently held at the multipurpose auditorium of Goa Dental College and Hospital at Bambolim where the outgoing president Dr Ivy Coutinho handed over the charge to Dr Subir Sansgiri.

A new executive committee for the year 2022 was declared on the occasion. The report of activities carried out in 2020 and 2021 was presented by the hon State secretary Dr Omkar Shetye and the account statement for this period was displayed by Dr Gaurav Nagarseker.

The member dentists who participated in the tele-monitoring programme during the first and second wave of the Covid 19 outbreak were felicitated by Dr Ivy Coutinho on behalf of IDA Goa.

Mementos and certificates were presented to 213 members who actively volunteered as Covid warriors to tele-monitor covid-infected home-isolated patients. A total of over 4000 patients benefited from this program.

The executive committee for 2022 consists of Dr Subir Sansgiri (president), Dr Ivy Coutinho (immediate past president), Dr Rajan Lambor (president elect), Dr Omkar Shetye (hon secretary), Dr Ridhima Gaunkar (joint secretary), Dr Shalmali Dhond (assistant secretary), Dr Aradhana Nagarsekar (assistant secretary), Dr Kennedy Mascarenhas (editor), Dr Sapna Raut Desai (assistant editor).
