MARGAO
After the overflowing sewage manhole right behind the Margao Municipal building, rainwater infiltration and reverse flow of sewage water in the Margao underground sewerage line has now come to haunt the residents of Agalli in Fatorda.
A retaining wall of Dharti Apartment in Agalli came crashing down due to an overflowing sewage manhole in the locality. The residents pointed out that it would cost around Rs 50,000 to repair and restore the retaining wall while urging the Sewerage Infrastructure Development Corporation of Goa Ltd (SIDCGL) and the PWD to take up the work of repairing the wall.
A resident Gurudas Haldankar said the retaining wall had collapsed after sewage water from a sewage manhole was gushing out for the last eight days. “We have been told that the sewage manhole is overflowing due to backflow of sewage in the underground line,” he said.
To a question, he said the PWD had checked the sewage manhole some time back to check for blockage, adding that the overflowing sewage chamber had also resulted in a nuisance in the locality.
