Parliamentary panel stresses better infra, reviews urban devpt projects

Banks, fiscal institutions told to devise innovative financing models

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs has insisted on comprehensive planning to improve infrastructure maintenance and expand sewerage and water supply coverage across Goa.

During its two-day visit to Goa, the delegation, comprising around 25 Members of Parliament and senior officials, also urged banks and financial institutions to devise innovative financing models to accelerate infrastructure development.

Information shared by the Department of Information & Publicity stated that the committee evaluated key urban development initiatives implemented under flagship programmes such as the Smart City Mission and other transformative national schemes.

The visit focused on assessing Goa’s progress in urban development, with the delegation engaging in detailed discussions with stakeholders and reviewing landmark projects. 

Special attention was given to initiatives under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U), Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM), and Prime Minister Street Vendor's Atma Nirbhar Nidhi (PM SVANidhi).

The delegates also conducted site visits of key projects under the Smart City Mission in and around Panaji, AMRUT and SBM-U. These further included projects on sustainable infrastructure developments, digitised citizen service platforms, innovative waste management systems and enhanced public spaces in Panaji.
