Pernem police form teams to trace accused in fatal hit-and-run

Pernem police have formed multiple teams to identify and track down car driver and passengers involved in a hit-and-run accident reported in Dhargal, Monday morning.

An FIR has been filed by the Pernem police under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC, along with section 134(a)(b) of the MV Act, against the driver responsible for the accident.

The car, details of which are still being confirmed, collided with a Yamaha Fascino scooter GA-11-F-3368, travelling in the same direction. DySP Jivba Dalvi informed that the rider of the scooter, identified as 55-year-old Devidas Konadkar, sustained injuries and succumbed while being shifted to the hospital.

"The driver of the unidentified vehicle fled the scene without reporting the accident to the police or helping the injured victim in receiving medical help. We have formed teams to trace the accused persons and impound the vehicles involved in the accident," Dalvi said.
