Plateau played host to Defense Expo over half a decade ago

MARGAO

Why the remote Quitol-Naqueri Betul plateau  in Quepem taluka as the venue of the Sunburn festival in South Goa, is a question that may be the subject of debate in socio-political and tourism circles during the weekend.

Well, this may be the question doing the rounds in the last two days after Sunburn unveiled plans to shift the festival to South Goa. But, those associated with tourism would agree that Quitol-Naqueri plateau may not find a mention as a bustling tourism hub on Goa’s tourism map. Other than the plateau playing host to the Defense Expo over half a decade ago, the plateau has been lying barren with no infrastructure worth its name on the sprawling land.

Take note, however, the plateaus located  along the Palolem-Agonda-Cabo de Rama tourism belt on Goa’s southern coast and Salcete’s bustling tourism belt, dotted by hundreds of hotels, including starred resorts, along the Cavelossim-Varca-Benaulim-Colva-Betalbatim-Majorda belt.

Leave along Salcete  coastal belt, the Cabo-de-Rama-Nuem-Agonda-Palolem belt is now emerging as a tourist destination in recent times. Dozens of domestic tourists heading to the this belt along the narrow Margao-Chinchinim-Assolna-Velim-Betul road every day is not only an open secret, but is a cause of traffic congestion along the narrow stretch of the road.
