Pomburpa p’yat’s U-turn is baffling as Sarpanch, MLA had backed locals

While issuing the stop-work order against the construction project on a hill two months ago, the Pompburpa-Olaulim panchayat had said that the construction is “unauthorised” and the technical clearance and construction licence has been obtained “fraudulently” by suppressing facts and misrepresentation.

The panchayat had also said that the property that was being developed lacked the required 8 metre access road to the site.

“There is actually no road infrastructure at all available at the site. The technical clearance and construction license has clearly been obtained by fraud and suppression of fact and contrary to Regional Plan-2021 and also with suppression in relation to the zoning entitlement, road access etc,” Leopoldina Fernandes, sarpanch of the village had said in her written order.

Interestingly, Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira had also patted the back of the local panchayat for doing the right thing by issuing the stop work order.

“Gross illegalities have been noticed from the stop work order. This is the first shade of our victory. Credit to our villagers of Pomburpa and Ecoxim for having stood up to stop the ravage and destruction of beautiful Goa’s natural cover and our small but lovely hills,” Ferreira had then said.

The panchayat had also said that it had received complaints from the Goa Foundation, villagers of Pomburpa and other independent groups against the proposed construction which includes residential house and staff quarters, swimming pool and a compound wall.
