PWD officials must stop harassing consumers: AAP

MAPUSA

Stating that the PWD officials harassed and behaved arrogantly with the common man, State Convenor for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Rahul Mhambre said the chief minister should take note of this and ensure that the officers stop harassment of the people.

Mhambre said the government was fooling the people of the State by promising to provide 16,000 units of free water but actually they were fleecing the public by sending hefty bills to them.

“We have two cases where the common man received bills for huge amounts. There is this woman staying alone in the house and yet she received a bill of Rs 47,000 while another woman received a bill of Rs 38,000,” Mhambre said.

He further said that both carried out several correspondences with the PWD officials and visited the offices several times but got no relief.

He further disclosed that when one of the women told the PWD Assistant Engineer that she will be forced to approach the court, he (engineer) bluntly told her she may go to the High Court or the Supreme Court but she will have to first pay the total bill amount.

They were also warned to pay the bill or their meters will be disconnected, he said.

The AAP convenor along with the two aggrieved consumers met the PWD assistant engineer in Mapusa and asked him to resolve their issue on priority.
