MARGAO
To implement the Order issued under section 144 of the Cr P C prohibiting people from entering abandoned quarries and waterfalls, the South Goa district Collector, Asvin Chandru has now mulled that the PWD identifies the major quarries which are frequented by people for the purpose of swimming.
At a high-level meeting chaired by the district Collector on Wednesday to take stock of the situation, Chandru is believed to have told the PWD officials to first identify the major abandoned quarries.
It has been recommended that the PWD then barricade the roads and entry points leading to the abandoned quarries with barbed wire fencing in order to restrict the entry of people to the prohibited zones.
“As per the discussions held on Wednesday, it has been decided that the PWD will first identify all the abandoned quarries and waterfalls which are frequently by people during the monsoons. The question of barricading the entry points to the quarries will be taken up later," an official said.
