PWD working on new scheme to settle unpaid water bills

PANAJI

Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Nilesh Cabral has said his department is working out the nitty gritties of a new amnesty scheme involving attractive terms for consumers to clear their overdue water bills which will include waiver of interest charges.

Cabral said, the modalities are being worked out by which there will be no human interaction and defaulter consumers will be able to avail of the scheme online.

Options of one-time payment as well as staggered installment based repayment of the overdue pending dues of consumers are being worked out, Cabral said, adding that the scheme will be made public in the near future.

On the question of bad and pot-hole ridden roads, Cabral said, he is closely monitoring the ongoing jet-patcher driven repair of roads in both North and South Goa districts.

While the pot-hole repair work is progressing satisfactorily in South Goa, the progress is lagging in the North, he said.

Around 6,000 pot-holes have been mapped in both the districts and till date about 2,000 of them have been covered, he said.

Two separate contractors are executing the pot-hole repair work and the one from South Goa has pledged that repairs of all the mapped pot-holes in the district will be completed by mid-September, Cabral said.

The minister also said that a tender would soon be floated to allocate work of installing road signages state-wide on a public-private-partnership basis.

All technicalities including the size of road signages, smaller proportion of the advertisement to be permitted on these, locations and related issues will be clearly stipulated, he added.
