Railway demarcation exercise completed at Velsao village

VASCO

The Department of Survey & Land Records (DSLR) resumed the railway demarcation process at Mollo, Pale village in Velsao on Saturday, under heavy police presence.

Despite the peaceful conclusion of the exercise, local residents expressed dissatisfaction with the land acquisition process, alleging insensitivity to their plight and constitutional rights.

The morning began with heated exchanges as villagers, led by Orville Dourado Rodrigues, confronted Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL) officials. They criticised the breach of an earlier agreement to halt construction activities post 6 pm.

Following intense debates, senior RVNL officials finally conceded to adhere to the timing restrictions, though only after repeated pleas from residents who highlighted the disruption of their sleep at nights.

The installation of demarcation markers brought anguish to the residents of Mollo, as many homes were identified for potential demolition to make way for the proposed second railway track.

At least six to eight families face the possibility of losing critical parts of their homes, such as kitchens and bathrooms, rendering their residences uninhabitable.

Local activist group Goencho Ekvott stood in solidarity with the affected families, offering emotional support and reiterating their commitment to the cause.

“The villagers are not alone in this fight for their rightful homes and sustainable lives,” a spokesperson assured.
