A miffed PWD Minister, Nilesh Cabral on Wednesday said that if he cannot perform to the expectations of the people then he was ready to quit the ministry.
Cabral also said that he would try to bring about a change in the administrative functioning of the department.
“I have decided to bring about certain changes to streamline the functioning in the PWD. I have also spoken to the CM about it and he appeared positive. Work has to be done to the satisfaction of the people. People should get 24-hours water supply and good roads. If I cannot deliver to the expectations of the people then it's better I leave the ministry,” Cabral said.
Soon after taking over as the PWD Minister, Cabral had announced that he would ensure that everyone gets water for four to five hours per day and later he would study the matter of providing 24-hours supply.
He said while ease of doing business has been making big strides in other parts of the country, it was not happening in the government departments in the State.
“Works are tendered and work orders issued but many times these works take five to six years to complete. Why should it take such a long time? This has to change and we need to bring reforms in the functioning of the departments,” he said.
He said there was a need to modify the administrative working of the PWD and he would do it with the help of the chief minister.
