MARGAO
Making a plea to the people to stop criticism and unite to protect Mhadei, Curtorim Independent MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has said he will send his letter to the Chairman of the House Committee on Monday to convene a meeting of the panel to discuss Mhadei.
Saying that everyone understands the intensity of the Mhadei issue, Reginaldo said no one is shying way from the issue and called for united efforts to win the war on Mhadei.
Speaking to The Goan on the sidelines of the Lokotsav programme at Raia on Sunday, the Independent MLA said Goa had already lost one battle on Mhadei over a decade ago and is fighting Karnataka in the second battle. “All I want to appeal to our people is not to criticise, but to unite to save Mhadei and win the final war on the issue,” he said.
To a question, Reginaldo, who is supporting the BJP-led government and is heading the Goa Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) as its chairman, said he was scheduled to write to the Chairman of the House Committee to call for a meeting on Mhadei.
He has called for preparing the studies on Mhadei and the impact will have on Goa if the river waters are diverted by Karnataka. “There is no question of succumbing to the demands of Karnataka. But, we have to remain united and show to New Delhi that Goa is untied so that the Centre does not dare to interfere with Goa in the future,” he said.
He added: “We have to immediately discuss the various options open for Goa, including the option to move the NGT.”
