Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday stated that the registered meat agents can bring live animals if beef is not available in the state and slaughter the livestock in a hygienic way at Goa Meat Complex Limited (GMCL) after seeking due permissions.
In the wake of severe beef shortage being experienced in Goa during the ongoing festive season, the announcement is expected to help the state in managing the supply and tide over the rise in demand as the year draws to a close.
"If beef is not available, registered agents can bring live animals to Goa after taking requisite permission and get them slaughtered hygienically at the GMCL," said CM. He has stated that the government will support this method to resolve the issue of beef shortage in Goa.
“That is Goa government’s stand. With Christmas fast approaching, the registered agents have an important role to play with ensuring smooth supply of beef in Goa,” CM Sawant said adding that the state abattoir has been readied to handle an increased demand for cattle slaughter.
