On Liberation Day, Goans people witnessed to their horror youth being detained in Panaji. These youth were silently and peacefully protesting against the wanton destruction of Goa. A captain and priest, who came to the rescue of the youth, were also placed under preventive arrest. Peacefully singing protesters at the Panaji church were dragged to the police bus and a mother was separated from her crying son by the men-in-uniform. This Liberation day was supposed to be people-oriented, but what we saw was something different. Goan youth of today are well educated and knowledgeable than those in power. They will no longer fall for goodies like free laptops and tabs. They know their priority and are very clear: the Earth needs to be protected. The police may have been following orders, but they too know whatever is happening in Goa will harm the future Goan generations.
