Reservation to Nagargao VP changed at last hour

VALPOI

The election process for the 12 panchayats in Sattari taluka will begin on Monday and the reservation has already been issued by the government. The reservation in division 2 of the Nagargao Panchayat area has suddenly been changed and locals cried foul saying injustice has been done to the ward.

The government had earlier issued a reservation for a total of seven wards in the Nagargao Panchayat.

According to the notification issued on Sunday, ward 6 has suddenly been declared reserved for women. Parag Khadilkar was elected from this division in the previous elections and had decided to contest. The sudden declaration of this division for women has created confusion among voters and they have expressed displeasure. The definite reason for changing the reservation of this division is not known.

The sudden reservation of this division has confused villagers and now, the search for women candidates has begun. Several women are likely to get into the arena to contest in this division.

The notification has come as a relief for outgoing sarpanch Prashant Marathe as his ward 1 was declared reserved for women as per the earlier notification, and now it will be open.
