South Goa BJP president & Sancoale ward panch Tulshidas Naik on Sunday evening expressed his unhappiness over the OBC reservation by the State Election Commission for the upcoming panchayat elections.
Naik said that following the Supreme court order and despite having around 50 per cent OBC population, not a single Ward was reserved for the OBC in the Sancoale panchayat. He has demanded the State Election Commission take note of the injustice done to the OBC community in Sancoale.
Naik was speaking to reporters after his project of an open-air gym with a badminton court was inaugurated in Sancoale near Shantadurga Temple at the hands of renowned dentist Dr Subir Sanzgiri in the presence of villagers.
Naik also laid a foundation stone for a community hall in the area.
Naik said that there were reservations for women and SC/ST communities for the upcoming panchayat elections and the Supreme Court later came with a notification for OBC reservations.
"However, sadly in Sancoale panchayat, we have 70 per cent Hindu and 50 per cent OBC population, but not even one ward is reserved for OBC. The election commission has to take note of this to resolve the injustice to the OBC community in Sancoale. While we are patient, sometimes people are forced to go to court against injustice. While the government has no role to play, the Election Commission must take note of this case that has hurt the OBC community in Sancoale," said Naik.
"We are at the final stage and the panchayat elections have been announced. The nomination will begin on Monday and it would not be in good taste to continuously get obstructions to the panchayat elections that already faced so many issues. We only hope that the best person wins. However, the Election Commission must note that there has not been even a single reservation for OBC in Sancoale panchayat," said Naik.
Naik expressed confidence that BJP-backed candidates would sweep the panchayat elections.
"We have seen the trend of how despite a bad picture painted by the opposition, BJP managed to win ZP elections, win 11 of 13 municipalities and secure 20 seats for the assembly elections. This has become a trend and people have realised that only BJP can work for the betterment of the people and provide good development for the State, and we are sure that BJP-backed candidates will sweep the panchayat elections this time as well," said Naik.
Naik said that the open-air gym and badminton court were taken up through private funds.
