GPCC president Amit Patkar on Sunday evening said that he had spoken to the opposition MLAs including the Aam Aadmi Party, Goa Forward Party and Revolutionary Goans Party for support to the UPA presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha.
Speaking to reporters at Dabolim airport after arriving from Mumbai, Patkar said that Congress has already gone ahead with the disqualification petition of Michael Lobo and Digambar Kamat.
"We have the Presidential election on Monday and we have spoken to all the opposition parties including Goa Forward, AAP and even RGP, and they have shown support to our UPA Presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha. We have spoken to party MLAs and convenors as well and they have extended support. We are hopeful that all the opposition will unitedly vote for the UPA Presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha," said Patkar,
"The five Congress MLAs had gone to Chennai for a personal visit and that was their decision. I was not with them and I have just returned from Mumbai. I have not met Michael Lobo, but we have had talks on the phone. I have just watched some tweet that Digambar Kamat was removed from his position as the permanent invitee of the Congress Working Committee by the Congress president," said Patkar.
"It is true that Michael Lobo had arrived for the meeting with our observer and Rajya Sabha MP Mukul Wasnik and there was a lengthy discussion. Lobo has given his clarification, and based on that discussion, they will discuss the issue and the high command will take the call. We have already filed the disqualification petitions against Michael Lobo and Digambar Kamat, which are not withdrawn yet," said Patkar.
