In a major boost to demand for reserving seats for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in minority educational institutions, the Directorate of Education and the Directorate of Technical Education have directed management of such institutions to compulsorily maintain 4 per cent job reservation for PwDs.
The order comes after the department sought to submit an action plan to the Directorate of Social Welfare regarding filling up of vacancies.
The order also warned of action under Section 89 of RPwD Act 2016 against the non-complying educational institutions.
In separate orders by the DoE and the DTE, the institutions are directed that 4 per cent reservation be maintained for fresh recruitment and promotions of the PwDs.
“The Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities had recommended to the Directorate of Education, the Directorate of Higher Education, and the Directorate of Technical Education, directing all minority institutions in the State to maintain 4 per cent reservation for PwDs as per Section 34 of the RPwD Act in their institution in fresh recruitments as well as promotions. The development comes in response to our letter,” the State PwD Commission stated in a press release issued earlier on Saturday.
All minority institutions are also required to maintain and submit their verified roster copy of PwDs to the Directorate of Social Welfare.
