RGP warns of consequences if marina project thrust on people

OLD GOA
Affirming his strong opposition to the Nauxim marina project, St Andre and RGP MLA Viresh Borkar has warned the government of consequences if it goes ahead with the project.

“I am giving a stern warning to the government not to go ahead with the marina project and if it does so, then be ready to face the consequences,” Borkar warned.

“This fight is not only of the people of Nauxim but from the entire constituency and the State. If the government goes ahead with the project, I will get people from all over Goa to protest against the same and then I should not be held for the consequences thereafter,” Borkar informed.

He further condemned the Centre for the illogical decision of waiving off EC and alleged that the double engine sarkar is promoting only the interests of the businessmen at the cost of the local community.

“It is a known fact that this area is rich in biodiversity with a varied species of fish found in the area, which also has been proved by an NIO report,” Borkar informed while adding that the project would require a large area of the bay to be filled as well as the cutting of the hill.

“When this is the case, how come the Centre waive off EC for the project?” Borkar posed.

When contacted, RGP chief Manoj Parab said that his party would not tolerate such a dictatorship of the BJP government to thrust ecologically disastrous projects on the people.

“The decision is a shocking one as the area is an eco-sensitive zone rich in flora and fauna. And to say that EC is not required is baffling,” Parab added while stating that the project would threaten the very existence of the local fishermen which RGP would not tolerate.

“Our MLA is in the constituency and the Revolutionary Goans will ensure that this project does not become a reality at any cost,” Parab thundered and stated that the party is ready to take the issue head-on.
