Right wing organisations have demanded an anti-conversion law to be passed in the assembly and to be sent to the central government, in order to curb illegal conversions in the State.
"The issue of religious conversions exists at the national level. To stop this, Article 25 of the Constitution needs to be amended and the words ‘Propagate Religion’ removed from it. There should be no obstacles in following one’s own religion,” said former CBI director Nageshwar Rao at a media conference on the third day of the 10th ‘Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Rashtra Adhiveshan’ (All India Hindu Nation Convention) at Ramnath Devasthan in Ponda.
“Besides, the State government must pass the requisite law in the Assembly and send it to the Central Government. Only then can illegal conversions be prevented completely,” said Rao.
National Guide of Hindu Janajagruti Samiti Charudatta Pingale welcomed Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s decision to announced that a law would be passed against religious conversions in Goa.
"We welcome his decision. The constitution should be amended, including the enactment of an anti-proselytising law in Goa, to prevent proselytising in Goa by Dominic and other Christian preachers,” said Pingale.
Chattisgarh BJP Vice President Prabal Pratap Singh Judev felt every Panchayat should have Dharma Samitis and Dharma Senas to prevent conversions.
Nepal’s District President of Vishwa Hindu Mahasangh Shankar Kharal said that Nepal, which has population of 3 crore, is also facing the problem of conversion, with 30 lakh Hindus already being converted.
